A discovery walk around Breisach and a guided walking tour around Colmar afforded us great views of two medieval towns. The amount of medieval buildings preserved intact in Colmar is amazing!
We went out for a walk around Breisach looking for a new charging cord and an ATM. We didn’t make it up to the church on he hill but it was a successful shopping excursion and it was a cute little town.

We went by bus to Colmar about 30 mins away. I’ve never seen a place with so many medieval half timbered buildings. There were streets and streets and streets of them.
This was our meeting place, Unterlinden. At the end of the tour we had to make our way back here.

These are Linden trees, you can see two storks in the nest on top of one of the linden trees. The city goes all out for its storks and creates nests for them in many places around the city. The stork pairs come back every year to these nests.

One part of Colmar has been dubbed little Venice because of all of the canals. The canals started out as waterways coming down from the mountains that farmers used to transport their goods into the cities to sell them.

We went through several locks this evening. When going through one lock they had to lower the captains bridge and also lower the radar so that we would fit under the lock door. We were pretty close to the top….

This evening the entertainment staff put on a musical review singing a whole slew of musical theater tunes. They were great! All three had wonderful voices.

Tomorrow we are looking forward to Strasbourg France and discovering a little more about that city.
The question to me is: how do they maintain all that half-timbering in such good shape - no rotting?
