Exploring Basel, a visit from the pigeons, Museum hopping, and boarding the TUI Isla for our river cruise.

This morning we had our window open when a pigeon decided to visit it flew in the room and right back out. Then a few minutes later it got much braver. It flew in and perched on top of the armoire and stayed for awhile…

Breakfast was very fresh and we had the best croissants!!

Then we took off for the old town. we took the elevator down through an old tower in the old city wall. The elevator shaft in the old wall was very very old.

ree

This is the tower that housed the elevator

ree

Then it was off to find some museums

the first museum we visited was the sun corny history museum, a special exhibit on Iberia, Egyptian remains and more.

ree

They used light to show the barely legible carvings in some tablets.

ree

With the carvings illuminated

Then it was on to the art museum. The museum covered art across history from the 12th century to modern art.

I loved the color in this piece

ree

This piece really stumped us. It was called leaning pipe….

ree

Then we moved on to the old building

ree

This one reminded us of the Swiss landscapes we saw in the mountains

ree

Paul and Silas leaving the prison in Phillipi

ree

A prelude of tulips to come in Amsterdam

ree

Today we got to go in the Münster

Then it was on to lunch at Zum Isaak. We ate in a nice little courtyard.

ree

The food was delicious!

ree

Especially the apple strudel with pistachio ice cream for dessert.

ree

Then we rambled back through the old town en route to our hotel.

ree

ree

There are so many little alleyways to explore.

ree

We decided to call a taxi to take us to the boat dock as it was quite a ways away and we were really tired of lugging our bags. Great decision and well worth the francs paid!!! The taxi driver dropped us off right in front of the ship!

The crew welcomed us aboard and took our luggage to our cabins.

ree

We settled in and explored the ship some

Looking over the bow of the ship

ree

The top deck

ree

The vedastro dining room

ree

The observatory lounge. This is where the port talks and the entertainment happens. Last night Sophie from the entertainment team sange cabaret songs, she has a wonderful voice and was really nice to listen too.

ree

Relaxing in the cabin

ree

The ship took off for Breisach about 1:00 am when the last passengers arrived. We went through some noisy bumpy locks during the night. Tomorrow we will wander in Breisach Germany and take a tour in Colmar France. I’ll be on the lookout for a phone charging cord as mine when yup in smoke and tiny flames….. luckily I was there to blow it out…..

Jane - I am sitting by my window as the eclipse passes overhead. We got about 80% coverage of the sun. It got cool and shady. Very interesting. Your trip continues to look interesting. Give me pistachio ice cream any day! I wonder if the "learning pipe" was where someone tried to put up a gutter and it fell to the ground, hitting a wall on the way down. That will "learn you" to try to put up a gutter by yourself!
