Day 10 - Cologne Cathedral and Chocolate

jfletc3233

Today we woke up in Cologne home to a massive cathedral and the Lindt chocolate museum.

We could see the cathedral out our window this morning and headed into town from the river, led by the spires of the cathedral.

This is a massive cathedral with so much intricate stonework! It is hard to get back far enough to get a good picture.

The stained glass windows are original to the cathedral. During the Second World War they saved the windows by removing them, hiding them away, and replacing the windows with clear glass.

They had a very intricate model of the cathedral.

After the cathedral we took a stroll down a pedestrian shopping street walking toward the chocolate museum. Chocolate dipped wafer cookies anyone?

We also got to see the cocoa plants growing.

Some delicate chocolate work

Heading back to the boat along the river

We learned that this is a hospice ship. It provides river cruises for people in hospice care.

Back to the TUI Isla

Leaving Cologne, on our way to Amsterdam

While sailing this afternoon TUI did a crafty canvas painting session.

Along the Rhein

Tonight was Gala night, Captains reception, meeting all of the crew, 7 course fancy dinner, and great musical entertainment from the on board entertainment team. Dressed up for Gala night.

I couldn't have imagined that Lindt grew their very own cacoa beans! I just assumed they were imported from somewhere. I think I'll toast you all and have some Lindt's chocolate of my own!
